The Power of Hope
A 14-year-old boy from Malawi, in Africa, builds windmills using bicycle wheels, tractor fans, copper wires and other items found in a junkyard
In 2000, a drought struck the African country of Malawi. Many went hungry. To save his people from famine, William Kamkwamba taught himself to build a windmill that could pump water and irrigate village crops. He found information on windmills in books in his elementary school library. Watch the video to hear him tell his story.
