Kids speak out about global warming

The United States is really stubborn for not going along with the Kyoto Protocol. We are supposed to be the most industrialized and the most civilized nation. It makes us look like fools. We can't afford to spend a little extra money to preserve Earth’s atmosphere, but we can spend billions of dollars on a war that is getting us nowhere?
Andrew O., 11, CT

I am so worried about global warming. We need to stop cutting down all of the trees so that they can absorb the carbon dioxide. I think the Kyoto plan to stop pollution is a brilliant idea, and I hope our country will decide to follow it, too.
Eli S., 10, Texas

It is very wrong of President Bush to completely ignore the situation of global warming. Bush doesn't care if he hurts the environment because by the time it's messed up, he won't be president anymore and therefore can't be blamed!
Scott R., 11, IL

People should do all they can to help stop pollution, even if it is something as little as recycling your soda can. Every little thing helps. Maybe schools can put recycling bins in classrooms. Students can bring in all of their cans and bottles and see how much the school can collect.
Lindsey A., 11, MA

It is outrageous that America won't participate in the Kyoto rules! Doesn't America care about the environment? Everyone needs to cooperate to stop global warming. It takes teamwork!
Whitney L., Washington

The United States should take action to help stop pollution. Since we are one of the richest countries, we should at least spend a little money to help.
Aaron Z., 11, MA

It is not good that the United States is not following the Kyoto Protocol. The U.S. is one of the most pollution-emitting countries in the world. Even if the rest of the world agrees to follow those rules, without the U.S. and its big businesses agreeing, global warming will still be a big problem.
Augustine S., 11, OH

The world needs to learn more about global warming issues. If we do not do something soon then some of Earth’s coolest animals will become extinct. People should use solar power instead of things that pollute the atmosphere!
Jillian J., 10, PA

Global warming is terrible. If we don't stop it, eventually there will be no snow and the earth will be so hot that people won't be able to inhabit it. I think that it is very bad that the United States didn’t sign the Kyoto Protocol.
Rick S., 10, PA

Global warming is very dangerous, and it must be prevented. Even if people think that it cannot be stopped, we should at least try. Stopping global warming is more important than keeping our businesses going. What about the penguins and the polar bears? We can't just let them become extinct.
Samantha R., 11, IL

I knew about global warming but I didn’t think it was serious enough to worry about yet. I feel so bad for the polar bears because the arctic is their home. I can't even imagine what the world will be like when all the ice sheets have melted. It's a good thing countries are working to cut down pollution. I cannot believe that the United States isn't following the Kyoto Protocol. I really hope it works!
Brendan N., 11, MA
