Insecticide-resistant lice
Researchers at the Harvard School of Public Health recently found that head lice collected from children in Massachusetts and Idaho were not killed by the frequently used permethrin. The researchers didn't test pyrethrum, which is also widely used, but some experts are concerned that lice may be growing resistant to it, too. Many experts believe that a thorough combing is the only true way to rid a person of lice.
A new device
Created by the National Pediculosis Association and approved by the FDA, the LiceMeister comb is a safe and effective treatment. The comb's long, smooth metal teeth work well to collect lice and nits without tearing hair. Parents can use the comb to check their children for lice regularly and catch problems before they spread.
