Arthur Gardner, 78, U.S. Ambassador to Cuba from 1953 to 1957, who stirred a storm among U.S. liberals for his support of Cuban Dictator Fulgencio Batista, and found no one ready to listen when he repeatedly warned that Fidel Castro, then regarded by many as a sort of swashbuckling idealist, actually "talked and acted like a Communist"; of a heart attack; in Palm Beach, Fla.
* In 1965, Lament was accused of making illegal "insider" stock profits as a director of Texas Gulf Sulphur Co. Last year he was completely cleared of the charge.
